Overcoming Mediocrity

Dr. Marilu Almeida Hunt

Dr. Marilu Almeida Hunt is a Certified International Health Coach and Functional Medicine Pharmacist. She worked for 17 years at University Hospital in South Florida as a Clinical Pharmacist and the Director of Pharmacy Services. She also served as an adjunct clinical professor during her tenure. She specialized in disease state management and was a national speaker for several major pharmaceutical companies.

After years of working in the hospital, Dr. Hunt realized she needed to move in a new direction. Therefore, she began to focus on Integrative Nutrition and Functional Medicine. She earned her Integrative Nutrition Health Coach certification from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and is an active member of the Institute of Functional Medicine and Functional Pharmacy Medicine Alliance.

She has earned many certifications with NSU College of Pharmacy and the University of Florida’s College of Pharmacy. She has been married for 25 years and loves every minute she gets to spend with her three college-age children and to play with her two golden retrievers. She also enjoys tennis, pickleball, and biking. She has always been athletic and was inducted into the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame for her athletic accomplishments in high school.

Her goal is to help educate clients about the complex nature of the human body’s digestive system and the simple language that the body uses to scream dysfunction. It’s important to realize there is no simple antidote or magic pill to fix our harmful modern environment. The standard American diet, considered SAD, with its excess of sugar, refined carbohydrates, and trans fats are contributing to a rise in disease. Health doesn’t happen overnight. It’s imperative to understand that digestion is an issue that is central to our health!

My Story

Rest and Digest to Feel Your Best

Dr. Hunt shares her story on how she helps her clients by using education regarding clean nutrition, attention to lifestyle, and access to quality supplementation to aid in improving and restoring health. Think of your body as a high-performance vehicle. Food can be your safest medicine or slowest poison. Understanding how your digestive engine works is critical to understanding proper fueling strategies. This is especially true with athletes. The body is constantly giving feedback, sending signals “disguised as symptoms” to properly address its needs. Listen carefully, go high octane, so you can recharge your engine to operate at maximum efficiency.
