Dorothy Hawkes Cavers

Born and raised in New Jersey, Dorothy realized early on that education was the key to avoiding a brutal cycle of cultural marginalization. Her education started with Head Start, which led to her becoming the first one in her family to earn a college degree. She studied Fashion Merchandising and Management in New England and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. After a short stint in retail, Dorothy chose a career in Corporate America.

Dorothy became a Corporate Sweetheart who thrived most when helping others to achieve professional and personal objectives.  While working for Dalkon Shield Claimaints Trust in Richmond, VA, Dorothy began to realize her gift as an orator. She took advantage of every opportunity to progress. During this time she became one of the most successful alternative dispute resolutions representatives who were representing the Trust in binding arbitration hearings, and also trained staff to do the same. Dorothy served as a certified court-appointed family mediator for the Supreme Court of Virginia and became an acclaimed platform speaker and resource in Alternative Dispute Resolution and medical malpractice arenas.

Currently she works as a risk manager for a physician-owned insurance company, and conducts communication workshops for physicians on disclosing unanticipated medical outcomes around the country. Her dream is to retire from Corporate America and enjoy retirement with money and time, at the same time.
