COURAGEOUS WOMEN - These stories are meant to inspire and encourage women to realize their true potential.

Joan Maiden

Based on the real transformations that have taken place in Joan’s life, she founded MPower Coaching, which is dedicated to helping others transform their lives, make positive changes and realize their dreams. For the past decade, Joan has helped numerous clients regain mobility, quality of life and renewed health and fitness.

Joan teaches that disease and disability do not have to be a natural part of aging. Much of the frailty associated with aging is simply caused by muscle loss, and new muscle can be rebuilt at any age. Building strength can turn the body from a liability to an asset. Your body is the dwelling for the soul—and it deserves a strong, healthy temple.

MPower Coaching stands for MY Power. It’s time to take back your personal power.

Joan has professional certifications in the following areas of expertise:

  • Professional Member, Engaging Speakers
  • Certified Healthy Behaviors Coach, Cooper Institute, Dallas, Texas
  • Certified Personal Trainer, American Council on Exercise
  • Certified Lifestyle Weight Management Counselor, American Council on Exercise
  • Certified Trainer, Balance, Stability, Mobility and Conditioning for the 50+ Adult, SCW

Go Ahead—Open the Door

At the age of 50, Joan was inspired by her best friend, JJ, to take a new direction–from administrative assistant to personal trainer/healthy lifestyle coach. JJ was hospitalized after being wheelchair bound for two years, unable to walk due to obesity and weighing over 500 pounds. When JJ got out of the hospital, Joan started sharing with her some of what she was learning at the gym she was attending. Despite being told by a physical therapist that she would never again walk unaided, within six months JJ was able to take her first steps in over two years.

For Joan, seeing JJ make changes in her life was an eye-opening experience and an inspiration. JJ helped Joan see the need for understanding and developing empathy for people striving to live a healthier lifestyle with huge barriers and challenges in front of them. With JJ’s encouragement, Joan became a trainer/healthy lifestyle coach.

JJ followed one of her lifelong dreams—she went from being wheelchair bound, unable to care for herself, to living near the beach in California and owning her own business.
